Iraq is implementing a project titled "Developing First National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and Fifth National Report to CBD" which is funded by Global Environmental Facility (GEF). One of the reports that has been developed within the project is "Stocktaking and Assessment Report".
According to the Project Work plan, approved by the GEF for Iraqi Enabling Activities in the area of Biodiversity, and to the specific guidelines given by the CBD, the stocktaking and assessment phase shall adress, Stakeholder identification and strategies for their involvement, Current status of biodiversity (baseline) and Current situation of biodiversity national plans, policy and legislation. In order to acheive this phase and its objectives a workshop was held for that purpose and institutional level bodies and agencies, who are involved in biodiversity issues and responsible for the implementation of the CBD nationally, were involved in this stocktaking phase of the Project.
"The Stocktaking and Assessment" report considers a result of Stocktaking and Assessment phase, which includes in details a background about biodiversity in Iraq, an overview of the legislations, policies and strategies in Iraq and an analysis of the stakeholders.
